ITALKIE
Cell phones and other communication apps have been changing our lives, making individuals in different parts of the world talking to others possible. However, those communicating ways are still different with the communicating pattern between families or partners who are living together. iTalkie is designed to simulate a closer communication.
Problems
Even though we can contact with our family via phone calls, messages and all kinds of communication apps, it may not be satisfying for a closer relationship, such as parents or partners. For those international students or long-distance relationship couples who may live in different continents, spanning several time zones, cell phones or messages sometimes are limited to share everything with your parents or partner:
Users cannot call their parents or partners whenever they have some stuff to share due to the time difference.
10-30 min call cannot cover all small things that they want to share, most of those things are forgotten.
So many ideas or words are passed into silence if individuals do not talk to their parents or partners for the first time.
Thus, iTalkie is designed to recur the communication pattern when you and your parents or partner are living together, sharing every little stuffs in your life when you are at home.
Ideation
To design a device which could provide a home-like communication, I boiled down three main issues:
Record Control
Convenience
Auto-Play
And solutions are demonstrated below:
Users can record some certain words by pressing the record button, thus it can control and ensure that users send the words they want to send to others.
The device would provide with a telescopic plug and a storage battery with a magnet, which would ensure convenience of the device that it can be caught up by anywhere magnetic and it can be charged conveniently. Since there exist storage battery in the device, it can work several days without charging.
The device should play the record automatically from others if users are at home; on the contrary, it should not play if there is no one in the house. To make the function available, the device should contain the infrared sensing, verifying whether there exist people in the house.
